A cavity doesn’t have to mean a filling you can spot every time you smile. Composite resin is shaded and shaped to blend into the tooth around it, closing up decay, chips, or worn edges without a flash of metal. The one thing it insists on is a bone-dry tooth to bond to — which is why we isolate it with a rubber dam, a quiet step that does a lot for how long the filling actually lasts.

Diagnosis
A closer look — and a digital X-ray where it helps — shows us exactly how deep the decay goes before anything else happens.

Isolation & comfort
Once you’re comfortably numb, a rubber dam goes on to keep the tooth completely dry — the difference between a filling that lasts and one that doesn’t.

The filling
The damaged part comes out, and the tooth-coloured composite goes in in thin layers, each one hardened under a curing light as we go.

Shaping & polishing
A final shape and polish blend the filling into your bite and your smile, so it looks and feels like it was always there.
Recovery & aftercare
Looking after it afterward
- Composite sets hard the moment the curing light hits it, so you can eat again as soon as the numbness wears off
- A little sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure for a day or two is normal and fades on its own
- Keep up your regular cleanings — we’ll check the filling’s edges every time you’re in the chair
